It’s my final day in Ireland. I’m writing early in the morning in a Pub/Inn called McGrory’s. I love these types of hotels that have an old pub downstairs. It makes the evenings fun when Amanda and I can put the kids to bed and then walk downstairs and have a pint or two.
The trip has been quite fun. We started in Scotland and jumped over to Ireland. We’ve posted some videos of our trip on our youtube channel, What Would Turners Do. We still have a few more Ireland videos we’ll be posting soon, and we intend to keep posting videos once a week once we are back in Boise.
In fact we seem to be doing a lot of videos these days. Amanda has her own channel [AK Turner] where she posts funny videos. My 11-year-old daughter Emilia wants to start her own channel when she gets back, as we’ve been teaching her how to record, edit, and post videos. And I have my own channel as well where I typically post short videos about the Boise economy and real estate market updates like this one:
I do enjoy making videos, though being in front of the camera is my least favorite part. I don’t feel the need or desire to be on the screen. The part I like the most is actually crafting the pieces together in the editing process and making it something fun and unique.
Every time I make a video I learn something new, and there is so much to learn that it fuels my curiosity, which is good, because it can take many hours to create some of the videos we make for our family channel. If I didn’t like the process it would likely never get done.
The power of curiosity is an amazing thing. Something we should pay attention to and embrace when it aligns with a goal we are striving for.
Maybe there is a sport that you find intriguing. You may find it’s way easier to reach your fitness goals by spending more time on the sport that piques your interests than by spending time in the gym.
Or there is something at work that you are much better at than your fellow co-workers and you enjoy doing it. Maybe it’s time to double down on that strength and find a way to spend more time on it.
That is what I’m doing with the videos. I’m no expert at making them yet, but I find I’m much more willing and able to do them than most, and why not find a way to double down on that strength since I enjoy the process too?
I’m signing off to go gather up our things, as we have to drive to Dublin this morning to catch a flight back to Boise tomorrow.

"Crush It" Work Life vs Home Life I first learned about Gary Vaynerchuk not long before he published his first book called “Crush it.” Since then, I’ve been a fan and have watched him grow a media empire from scratch. He is an amazing speaker. He captivates audiences...
"I’m on the defensive." I’m on a roller coaster of excitement and stress. On Sunday, I had a stack of critical things I had planned to work on. How much of it did I get done? Zero. I did work. As in, I worked on my computer. For many hours. But I couldn’t get myself...
